As some of you may know, we recently got our business cards printed up! Overall, I think they look pretty legit and they capture the essence of Embargo Clothing nicely. It was difficult trying to capture what we are all about on a tiny card but we are very happy with the outcome. The front features the obligatory business card info but for the back we decided to take it to the streets and feature a plethora of politically motivated street art. So far the reaction has been very positive and everyone seems to love the double-sided feature we threw on. Surprisingly though, the number one compliment we get it is on rounded edge near the bottom (I guess people are easy to amuse these days). Actually, this reminds of that part in American Psycho (click here) where the four guys are in a board room comparing business cards and the one guy freaks out because no one likes his! I feel where the guy coming from though; I mean, you put all this energy into creating a bone colored business card with cillian rail lettering and people can’t appreciate? I’m not gonna kill you if you don’t like ours but feel free to drop some comments on it.

Alright folks, I’ve be trying to figure out how I’m gonna be organizing this blog and have come to the decision that people want “useful” things when they visit a site, right?. Personally, I have my favorite sites that I visit daily because (a) I know there’s ALWAYS fresh content and/or (b) they have something I want (i.e. news, music, tutorials) so I’m gonna try and integrate those two principles on this site. I’ve decided to have a category dedicated to news (the daily communiqué) which will have up-to-date articles on current events and “hot” topics. Also, I’m gonna try and supply the masses with relevant and noteworthy music/videos every once in awhile. Obviously this blog is dedicated to keeping peeps interested and informed on Embargo Clothing and its movements, so I plan on keeping everyone in the loop regarding new designs, upcoming eventss and possibly even give readers a chance to vote potential designs! Anyways, that’s basically what I’m trying to do, so if you have any comments or suggestions on things you’d like to see then hit me up and let me know.

This will be the first of a series of post dedicated to the NACLA: Report on the Americas. For those of you not familiar with NACLA (North American Congress on Latin America) check out their website for more information. I’m a recent subscriber and I encourage anyone with interest in Latin America to check it out; they have special rates for students and since our $CND is doing fairly well at the moment they are offering a reduced rate subscription.
Anyways, this months issue is all about the RIGHT! Yeah, I bet you didn’t see that one coming. As you can see, their always intriguing cover art chronicles the rights “family tree” in Latin American History. This issue is all about uncovering what’s going on with the right these days as they try to emerge out of the shadows cast by left-wing heavyweights such as Chavez & Morales. It’s kinda funny actually because some of these right-wing “movements” are now claiming to be victims of state and are using similar tactics employed by the social movements over the years, such as mass demonstrations & hunger strikes, to get their message out. Yeah, it sucks when the shoe’s on the other foot doesn’t it? In addition to the efforts of the Bolivian-right to sabotage and defy Evo’s movement through various forms of extralegal violence, this issue also touches on the not-so-often talked about ultra-conservative and increasingly militarized right-winged governments in both Mexico and Colombia.

This picture is wrong on so many levels and I don’t even know where to begin. I don’t know maybe it’s just me but I find this one freakin’ hilarious for some reason. We all know all Georgy boy loves to get down when he travels to Africa; anyone remember this little gem? Anyways, you can see the sweat on his forehead as he thinks of China’s emerging presence in Africa, but he maintains that he’s cool with China’s ventures into the martyr continent of Africa. Ahh, you gotta love photo-ops.

My first blog post was dedicated to Fidel’s exit only because I felt it was an important event and those are the type of things this blog will always try to cover. Anyways, this is the de facto first post and I just wanna update everyone on Embargo Clothing’s progress. We launched our first design (The Classic Embargo Tee) over the winter just to give everyone a glimpse of the company and its objectives. Meanwhile, we garnered a lot of exposure in a very short time as result of our participation in the York University “Fair Trade Fair” and we gained a lot of support from an always socially conscious York community. We thank everyone who has shown interest and copped a shirt so far and we hope this blog will get even more like-minded peeps interested in our movement.
Stay tuned for our spring line…

Will the embargo end in Cuba? With the absence of Fidel, naturally that’s the first question that comes to mind (well for me anyways). It’s safe to say that the U.S. will continue its petty stubbornness and dig their feet even further in the sands of Miami. Regardless, the hostility towards Cuba, and the embargo itself, needs to end; I mean I think they made their point over the past 40 or so years and any form of legitimacy that it may of had fizzled away decades ago. Soviet China and Russia were off the hook years ago but the tiny island 90 miles south of Miami is still paying the price? One word can sum up the ongoing U.S. hostility towards Cuba — Manifest Destiny. <sarcasm>Why can’t Cuba just be more like Puerto Rico ? </sarcasm>
Anyways, I think I’m gonna make an anti-embargo tee for our spring line so stay tuned and maybe I’ll let our readers (Did I just say readers? I think I’m the only one who reads this thing) vote on the design.
